Restore.tv Season 1 – Episode 8: “The Brave Sheriff”

The saying goes “There’s a new sheriff in town.” but in this case it’s an old photo of a sheriff!

Devere Fowler of Lehi, Utah visited us with a photograph that he wanted restored of his Great Grandfather Thomas Fowler who was going to be memorialized by the Sons of Utah Pioneers.
Thomas arrived in Utah at the age of 19 with one of the first handcart companies that came across the plains from England. He went on to become the Sheriff of Utah County and then became a U.S. Marshall for the rest of his life, which is when the picture was taken. (Can you see his U.S. Marshall badge poking out from his suit vest?) Many great words have been spoken about Thomas Fowler but the word that was repeated over and over in the stories of Sheriff Fowler’s life was how brave he was. We loved hearing Devere recount the story of how his great-grandfather stopped a train and talked a criminal on the run to turn himself in simply by talking to the man! Thanks Devere for coming by Restore.tv, we hope you and your family and all those at Sons of Utah Pioneers, enjoy your restored photo!
